It feels like my number of Tumblr followers has plateaued while RSS subscriptions continue to grow at a comfortable pace. This isn’t surprising, since Tumblr users are a relatively small group and RSS is available across the vast majority of the web sites (i.e. RSS has a greater potential audience, especially as more and more mainstream users adopt the technology). However, Tumblr followers are more valuable because they are far more likely to reblog the things I post (because Tumblr makes it so easy), thereby helping me reach potential new readers.

(Still, there are bloggers out there who link me, like this nice fellow. You non-Tumblrs should follow his good example.)

So, anyway, how does one go about courting a wider Tumblr audience? The NSFW nature of syntheticpubes.com is a stumbling block, sadly: I’ll never be featured on the Tumblr Explore pages, and many people steer clear because of work or spouses or general prudishness. Perhaps I’m just bumping up against the upper limits of the titty niche here. I can’t just clean up my act and start posting only kitten photos, music and ‘designy’ stuff though, since that would be tantamount to surrender. Fuck that.
