Urban Outfitters is one of the only clothing retailers still turning a handy profit during this depression, and now they’re selling fixies. People are losing their shit over this.
Gap (I thought it was GAP or The GAP but their web site indicates otherwise) has begun blatantly ripping American Apparel’s marketing, sans nipples. People design nerds are clucking their tongues.
But you know what? This is the culture shift we voted for with our wallets. Exclusivity (or maybe elitism) is naturally self-destructive. The knockoff designer handbag market is, in dollars, larger than that of the real thing. Aerospokes are the new Louis Vuitton.
I for one am really glad that bikes are cool and headed steadily toward the mainstream.
And this girl? Bring it on. Less Grey Goose, more tallboys. Less Ed Hardy, more knockabout flannel and jeans. Less Tiffany jewelery and more callouses. I’m ready. Let’s build.
