Leave some goddamn breadcrumbs, you dipshits

Many tumblogs (including this one) are primarily collections of interesting items found elsewhere on the internet, and providing source links is a major benefit to one’s audience—such citations allow visitors to spider outwards if they come across an item that strikes their fancy.

Additionally, source links are the due diligence (i.e. Page Rank boost, extra site traffic) that authors hope for when they put their creations online, and without them we’d still be passing around that .gif animation of the goddamn dancing baby.

A blog(ger) that collects and displays the work of others without linking to their sources is a geyser of AIDS and FAIL. I’ve accumulated a number of followers who consistently reblog images from me and strip out the names and links that I’ve included. If I could ban you retards from recycling my posts, I would. If I could psychically set fire to your families and loved ones, I would. I don’t give a shit if you strip my name off the post, just please please please keep the original author’s name/link.

The currency of the web is knowledge (names, links, etc.), and those who ignore that fact are contributing nothing but blueballs to their audience. I have a particularly malignant Tumblr follower who reblogs my shit but edits each image link to point to his personal blog. I hope he gets butt cancer.

I swear to god I’m gonna build a replica Memex and sacrifice a virgin atop it so that a reanimated Vannevar Bush will claw his way from the cold clutches of the earth and lurch from city to city, raping and eating every malignant reblogger perched in front of a dandruff-filled keyboard.
