Love, Darwinism, hand-wringing, and the externalization of blame

The best refutation of Love in the Time of Darwinism came from Rachel Hills, who pointed out that its author is reliably conservative in her writing and that the article contains more bitter, misogynistic testimonials than actual food for thought. Still, there were a couple interesting points, and that seemed enough to merit posting a link. (The bit about movie tickets vs. a single rose reminded me of an ex who once tried to explain why she should only pay for one out of every three meals instead of one out of two, and no, wage inequality was not part of her logic.)

I especially liked Rachel’s assertion that “Hot Girls With Douchebags should be retitled Douchebags with Douchebags.”

Here’s what I do: I hold the door for everyone, female or male. There’s nothing wrong with being nice. We can all aspire to be more conscientious. I’ve yet to have anyone protest my actions, but if that time ever comes I figure I’ll just chuckle, shake my head, and walk away.
